Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

My daughter read this in her class this summer so I thought I would give it a read myself.  I have always wanted to go back and read the classics I missed during my less than stellar education.

In this case I have to thank my teachers for not making me read this book before now.  I am trying to get through it but I am not sure I will be able to.  It has been so excruciating to get into it.  I can't decide what it is about the book that I don't like.

So far I can't really get into the characters.  Is there anything about them I want to learn more about or should I care about them?  Do we have to like a character to want to read a book?  I think we either have to like the main character or at the very least find them interesting.

The style of writing.  It probably isn't my cup of tea.  Bronte takes a whole chapter to describe what I think could be described in a paragraph.  I have been skipping pages to try and get through the book.

It's either the style of writing or the lack of interest in the characters that I don't care about. Actually it's both, I just can't decide what I like least.

I gave up.
